The Passing has occurred of James (Jimmy) Hughes from Kilbegnet, Creggs, and Brothers of Charity, Augmagree, Kilteevan, Co. Roscommon

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Hughes, who departed this life peacefully on February 15th, 2025, in the devoted and compassionate care of the staff at The Brothers of Charity Services.

Jimmy was the beloved son of the late Jack and Eileen and a much-treasured brother to Anne Cuddy (Loughrea), Paddy (Kilbegnet), Bernie Heavey (Castlebar), and Val (Newcastle, U.K.).

He will be deeply missed by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, as well as his many friends and dedicated carers in The Brothers of Charity who became like family to him. Jimmy’s gentle spirit, kind heart, and warm smile will be remembered always by those whose lives he touched.

May His Gentle Soul Rest in Peace.

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon: Jimmy will repose at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) on Monday, February 17th, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, where family, friends, and all who knew him are welcome to pay their respects.

Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Kilbegnet: His Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Tuesday, February 18th, at 11:00 am, in St. Mary’s Church, Kilbegnet. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Kilbegnet Cemetery.
