It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Phil (Philomena) Elwood (née McCormack) on February 21st, 2025. Phil departed this world surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
Devoted Wife
A devoted wife to her late husband John, Phil was a cherished mother to Patrick, Lucy (Cassidy), Claire (Marré), and Peter. She now reunites with her beloved daughter Laura, whom she missed dearly.
Beacon of Warmth
Phil was a beacon of warmth and generosity, touching the lives of many. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Laura, Tom, Anabel, Will, Alexander, and Alana, and a beloved mother-in-law to Bill, Martin, and Christof. She will also be deeply missed by her sisters Lucy and Angela, and fondly remembered by her late siblings Ena, Madeleine, Eileen, Mary, Patrick, and Dermot. Phil’s loss is deeply felt by her extended family, including nieces, nephews, dear friends, and neighbours who were fortunate to have known her.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing: Phil will repose at Temple Hill Funeral Home, Boreenmanna Road, Jerh. O’Connor Ltd., on Sunday, February 23rd, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, where friends and family are welcome to pay their respects.
Requiem Mass: A celebration of Phil’s life will take place on Monday, February 24th, at 12:00 noon in St. Columba’s Church, Douglas. Those unable to attend in person can join the service via live stream here
Cremation Service: Following the Mass, Phil will be laid to rest at The Island Crematorium, Rocky Island, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. The service can also be viewed online here
In Loving Memory
Phil was a woman of great character, known for her compassion, wisdom, and devotion to family. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and was always ready with a kind word or a listening ear. Her presence brought warmth to every gathering, and her wisdom and humour will be dearly missed.
