The Passing Has Occurred of Philomena Barrett (née Browne) from The Square, Mountbellew, Galway

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Philomena Barrett (née Browne) of The Square, Mountbellew, Co. Galway. She left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by her devoted family, on February 21st, 2025.

Warmth & Kindness

Philomena was a woman of great warmth, strength, and kindness, whose presence brought light to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, P.V., and now joins him in eternal rest.

Forever Missed

A cherished and loving mother, she will be forever missed by her daughter Marian (Daly) and her sons Iomar, Vincent, and Brian. She was a devoted mother-in-law to Tom, Bernadette, Carmel, and Elaine and a proud grandmother to Iomar Óg, Sheenagh, Ornagh, Daragh, Jill, Sarah, Oliver, Eva, Brian, Matthew, Andrew, and Joshua. Her love and wisdom extended to her nine adored great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Deeply Grateful

Philomena was deeply grateful for the kindness and care she received from her dear friend and wonderful carer, Geraldine White. Her passing is mourned by her extended family, nieces, nephews, neighbours, and many dear friends, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing: Philomena will repose at the Franciscan College Oratory, Mountbellew (H53 WE00), on Sunday, February 23rd, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Following this, she will be brought in solemn procession to St. Mary's Church, Mountbellew.

Requiem Mass: A Mass celebrating Philomena’s life will take place on Monday, February 24th, at 11:00 am in St. Mary's Church, Mountbellew. Those who cannot attend in person are welcome to join the service via live stream here

Burial: Following Mass, Philomena will be laid to rest in New Cemetery, Mountbellew (Tuam Road), where she will rest in peace alongside her loved ones.

Philomena was a woman of gentle strength, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and community. She had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys—cherished moments with loved ones, heartfelt conversations, and the warmth of home.
